Aah, summer - did you roast marshmallows over a campfire, kayak on serene waters, bike through forest trails, explore shipwrecks in Lake Michigan, and enjoy all your other favorite camping related activities this summer? It’s not too late—come join Learn Scuba Chicago this Labor Day weekend for our camping adventure in the Indiana Dunes National Park.

We’ve successfully secured the only group campsite in the Indiana Dunes and now we need you! Camping is no excuse to eat poorly, so we’ll be bringing a full outdoor kitchen and making everything from woodfired sourdough pizza to homemade ice cream (including DF/GF/Vegan options).

We’ll be bringing some classic outdoor games like cornhole and encourage you to bring your favorite lawn games to share.

If you get tired of sitting around the campfire, there is plenty to do at the Indiana Dunes National Park. We are located close to the Dunbar beach. There are 15 different hiking trails covering more than 50 miles. The park also includes 37 miles of bike trails (bring your own bike). Plus, we are also organizing some local excursions:

  • If you are a certified scuba diver we are offering two dive charters out of Portage Harbor. One of the outings will be appropriate for divers of all levels including newly certified divers.
  • If you’d rather be on top of the water instead of underneath, we are organizing an excursion to rent kayaks and explore local waterways.
  • Labor Day is the start of apple picking season, so we are also organizing a trip to a local orchard.

Learn Scuba Chicago is a volunteer run organization, and we love it when people volunteer. Do you have an idea on how to make this camping adventure even more fun? Do you want to run a special game or activity? Do you want to prepare a special meal or treat? Do you have a great idea for a local excursion? Join us!
