Returning to Paradise: Philippines - October 2026

In October 2026, we’re thrilled to return to one of the richest marine environments on the planet—Puerto Galera, nestled on the northern coast of Mindoro Island in the Philippines. Located within the heart of the Coral Triangle, this region is recognized globally for its extraordinary marine biodiversity, and in 2019, it gave us some of the most unforgettable dives of our lives. We're excited to return to our friends at Scandi Divers.

Back then, every descent brought a new spectacle: fields of vibrant soft coral, color-shifting anemones, and countless species of reef fish weaving through intricate coral bommies. We encountered frogfish, pygmy seahorses, mantis shrimp, and an incredible variety of nudibranchs—each more brilliantly colored than the last. Puerto Galera’s reefs are a living museum of underwater life, offering a kaleidoscope of creatures for macro enthusiasts and wide-angle lovers alike.

Our dives took place aboard traditional bangkas (double outrigger canoes), which carried us effortlessly over turquoise waters to dive sites just minutes from shore. Whether drifting along vibrant walls or exploring sheltered bays teeming with life, each site revealed why this area is considered one of the premier diving destinations in Southeast Asia.

But beyond the reefs, our experience deepened through connection with the local community. We had the opportunity to visit a nearby village, where we delivered school supplies, clothing, and basic medical items. That day, filled with laughter, games, and shared meals, reminded us that the most meaningful journeys reach both below the surface and beyond it.

Evenings were spent recounting our dives over fresh local dishes, forming new friendships, and yes—joining in the occasional K-pop karaoke session, much to everyone’s delight.

As we prepare to return in 2026, we do so with eager anticipation—ready to dive once more into the thriving ecosystems of the Coral Triangle, to witness the underwater world in all its glory, and to reconnect with a community that made us feel at home.

Puerto Galera is more than a dive destination. It’s a sanctuary for marine life and a haven for those who seek wonder beneath the waves.
