About Learn Scuba Chicago

Since 2008, Learn Scuba Chicago (LSC) has enjoyed offering scuba instruction, travel, and gear to Chicagoland divers. “Capt Bob”, Chicago native and Northwestern Alum, began his dive certification in the Bahamas, continued it as Dive Master in Malibu, and then escaped to Maui for a year to work as an Instructor on a dive boat. After returning to the shores of Lake Michigan, he found his calling: He became a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor, a First Aid and CPR Instructor, and a boat captain! He quickly began a small scuba training operation out of his garage, utilizing community pools, to grow a steady student base.

Through an intensive Divemaster Candidate (DMC) internship program, Capt Bob helped develop a staff of knowledgeable and conscientious divers. “We have a fantastic line up of past and current staff, including but not limited to corporate executive types, high school educators, Navy veterans, triathletes, an Emergency Medical Technician, accountants, software programmers, your favorite UPS guy, Shedd Aquarium volunteer divers, graphic designers and many more. To summarize, we’re a great group of people to trust with your scuba training.” -Capt Bob (2014)

In 2013, Learn Scuba Chicago became the only NAUI certifying facility in the Chicagoland area. NAUI, the National Association of Underwater Instructors, is America’s oldest recreational scuba certification agency. Since 1959, NAUI has promoted dive safety standards at the highest level. NAUI is the dive education program used by the US Navy Seals.

Learn Scuba Chicago is also PADI certified. PADI, the Professional Association of Diving Instructors, is the world’s largest dive certification agency.
